Compassion directed toward oneself is true humility. —Simone Weil
I came across this quote in Charles Chu’sThe Open Circle email newsletter earlier today and I’ve been pondering in it every since.
It’s one good thing to have compassion on others; that’s because you believe you are somehow better or more privileged than they are.
However, when you direct your compassion towards yourself, it’s an entirely different thing. It shows that you acknowledge your helplessness and imperfections. It shows true humility. It shows that beyond all the strong-head you’ve been forming all about, you acknowledge that you are not almighty after all and you can actually do with some help here and there to be perfect and whole.
